It was 9 years ago today that I first visited Austin. I flew down
for a weekend and stayed with my cousin and her family. Prior to
making my decision to move here, I thought I had no family here.
It's a good thing I did because they were able to take me around to
find an apartment. Her husband was an officer and I got to go on
a ride-along, or was that after I moved here... I don't really
remember, but I do remember the whole time I was here was a lot of
fun. Anyway, 2 weeks later I drove down with my dad and all my
stuff and officially took up residence. I finally made it out of
the small town and to the big city.
Everything is different now. They have long since moved away, and
I've got a house now instead of living in an apartment. The city
has really grown in those few years; there's more people and more
traffic. At work (Dell since August of that same year) I've been
through a growth spurt where we hired literally hundreds of people
every week and a spurt of layoffs.
It's been exciting, I'm looking forward to the next 9 years with it's many changes and new experiences.
